Charnwood BD48 - Belt and Disk Sander

Key Features

This bench top sander has a steel base with extended legs for increased stability. It sits on 4 rubber feet or can be secured to a work bench using those 4 mounting points.
The direct drive design is more efficient than the traditional belt drive configuration. Both the disc and belt functions are powered directly from the motor shaft.

Disc Sanding

The disc sander side has a 200mm (8″) diameter plate complimented by an aluminium work table which is supported on both side to give a stable platform. The table can be tilted down from 90 to 135 degrees, with a clear scale marked out in 1 degree increments.
A sliding mitre guide fits into a slot in the work table allowing the disc to be used for accurate sanding of square edges as well as bevels, mitres and even compound angles. The mitre fence can be adjusted up to 60 degrees in each direction.
Fitted with an 80 grit self adhesive sanding disc.
It is possible to convert the disc to use the Hook & Loop fixing system. Simply add the Hook part to the plate, product code VB300. Then unlock the advantages of Loop backed discs, which can be removed and refitted at will. Adding the great benefit to be able to work down through different grit sizes.
Replacement discs are available from 60 grit (Coarse) up to 150 grit (Fine).

Belt Sanding

The sanding belt can be used in horizontal or vertical mode. It can also be locked at an angle in between, sometimes more comfortable when using it for sharpening tools.
When used in the horizontal position, there is a back stop to work against and prevent loose parts from escaping.
When using the belt in the vertical position the second work table should be fitted. The table can be tilted down from 90 to 135 degrees, with a clear scale marked out in 1 degree increments.
The sliding mitre guide fits into a slot in the work table allowing the belt to be used for accurate sanding of square edges as well as bevels, mitres and even compound angles. The mitre fence can be adjusted up to 60 degrees in each direction.
When the time comes to replace the sanding belt there is a quick release tension lever and tracking adjustment to balance the new belt.
Fitted with an 80 grit belt. Replacements belts are available from 60 grit (Coarse) up to 150 grit (Fine).

Sanding Curves

The open end of the belt sander can be used for sanding curved edges, cut on a bandsaw or a scroll saw. By carefully moving the workpiece over the drum an internal curve can be sanded. External curves can be sanded on the flat section of the belt.

Dust Control

The BD48 has internal ducting to control dust. A simple selector switches between the Disc and Belt functions. A 63mm outlet is proved to connect to a dust extractor.
Our 65mm (2.5″) hose, product code 65FLEX, will go straight onto the outlet, to be secured with a hose clamp, product code 65HC.
Alternatively the outlet can be converted to 100mm (4″) diameter to use with 100mm extractor hose. Product code 65FC & 100/63RC.
If you need to switch extraction between several machines in the workshop, then the magnetic system is a joy to use. Product code MAGCUFF65.
We recommend wearing a face mask or respirator during all sanding operations, even if a dust extraction system is in place. Don’t take chances with your health.
